Job description..Professor of Modern History.The Faculty of Arts of the University of Groningen invites applications for the position of Professor of Modern History. The chair focuses on the study of the history of the period from 1789 to 1945. The new professor must have a broad knowledge of modern history. He or she will be expected to make a major contribution to the profile of the History degree programme and of the Modern History Department at both national and international level..The position involves.- providing and guiding teaching in the above-mentioned field within the Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programmes in History and the Research Master’s degree in Modern and Contemporary History.- coordinating and conducting research in the field of the chair definition.- raising external funds for research.- supervising PhD students.- performing managerial, administrative and organizational tasks.- further cultivating and developing national and international contacts to benefit teaching and research...Requirements..We are seeking enthusiastic candidates who want to lead a team that keeps close track of the newest developments in the fields of teaching, research, politics and culture..We assume that candidates.- hold a PhD in the field of Modern History.- are an authority in their research area and have extensive research experience in the field of Modern History.- have extensive academic teaching experience, in particular in the field of Modern History.- have good managerial, administrative and organizational skills.- have been successful at raising external funds for research.- have experience in supervising PhD students.- are able to promote interest in the field.- find it challenging to work in a dynamic faculty.- are prepared to move to the Groningen area.- have a good command of the Dutch language or are prepared to learn Dutch in the short term..Additional information about the job:.The University of Groningen offers a full-time position as Full Professor 2 as of 1 febr. 2008.
