Documentation sites do not view themselves as memorial museums, since few or no people were harassed or killed at their historical sites that could be commemorated. Consequently, the existing documentation centres focus on presenting the ideology, persecution apparatuses of the SS and police, and the structures of Nazi crimes.
Documentation centres are important for understanding the Nazi regime and its crimes and complement the historical information presented at memorial museums. Their aim is to show the consequences of the events and actions for the victims in the places of the perpetrators as well.
