Germany-wide Overviews

“Germany - a monument

http://www.deutschland-ein-denkmal.de

“Germany - a monument” is a directory of the National Socialist camps and places of detention that were in use between 1933 to 1945. The project is based on a database that contains over 3,600 entries about the complex system of sites of injustice. This includes concentration and extermination camps, labour and education camps, youth protection camps, police detention camps, Gestapo prisons, ghettos and assembly camps, “euthanasia” murder sites, as well as forced labour camps and Wehrmacht detention centres. The overview focuses on the historical crime scenes and not the memorial sites. The project was originally conceived and exhibited in the mid-1980s by the artist Sigrid Sigurdsson in the Karl-Ernst-Osthaus-Museum in Hagen as an “Open Archive”.
